This interactive presentation will provide the participants with strategies for engaging pre-service and in-service educators in thought-provoking, civil dialogue focused on the question, what is the purpose of schools? Participants will leave with a broader perspective on the concept of educating for democracy. Specifically, this session will focus on effective facilitation, protocols for engagement, and integration of technology. Presenters will share ideas that participants can transfer to professional development or classroom practice throughout the school for teaching students to listen to others, show empathy, think critically, argue for positions, give reasons, and be open to compromise.
